Bariquins’ Website Revamped

Bariquins have continued to make developments throughout the difficult times that Covid has imposed on everyone. The latest of these that can now be revealed is our updated website.

The original website has been replaced with a more dynamic version that has the information immediately accessible.

A reduction in the number of pages has made it more compact, giving it a sleeker, cleaner appearance.

Downloads, such as our brochure, and contact points are also more easily available to the website viewer.

Rather than take our word for it, the best way to see these changes for yourself is to go to www.bariquins.com

Rental Reminder

As well as the resumption in our training programme, Bariquins would like to remind everyone of our rental service.

If it is not practical to purchase a Bariquin training mannequin, here is an effective alternative. When your organisation needs to engage in moving and handling or rescue training scenarios for circumstances involving people living with obesity, the rental option is ideal. It allows you to carry out your training exercise or a concentrated programme of staff training courses. And don’t forget, as our Bariquins are modular, you can also rehearse scenarios for amputees.

For a daily rental charge of £350 (+VAT) or £500 (+VAT) for a week. For a rental period longer than a week, it is then £350 + VAT per week thereafter, providing it is one continuous period.

The packages include a Bariquin bariatric mannequin, clothing and roll-cage which will be delivered, then collected after the rental period. Assembly instruction will also be provided when the Bariquin is delivered. We do have to restrict this offer to mainland UK addresses only.

Barry & Benny’s Round-Up

In this regular section, we look at news and other pieces of interest that have occurred since the last newsletter.———————————————–

Headlines, reports and articles that have caught our attention recently are listed here, starting around the world:

  • In Saudi Arabia, a patient weighing 400kg (that’s 63st or 882lb) was flown to a hospital in Riyadh for treatment due to difficulties with his mobility. More details can be found here.
  • Over in Malaysia, the Melaka firefighters are responding to another challenge of “bariatric rescues” during the Covid-19 pandemic. This includes one individual weighing 230kg (36st 3lb or 507lb). Read more about this here.
  • From America, the number of US States with ‘high’ obesity almost doubled in just 2 years. All states now have over 20% of their adults living with obesity. More details are here
  • Half of the French population are now classed as either living with obesity or overweight with nearly one in six living with obesity. Details can be found here.
  • In Ireland, the growing levels of obesity among their population will represent a significant expenditure risk for the Government, a spending review has warned. This is due to a huge increase in the number of weight loss surgeries envisaged. More details here and here.
  • In the UK, young adults aged 18 to 24 are at the highest risk of becoming overweight or developing obesity in the next decade of their life compared to adults in any other age group. See more here.
  • People seeking NHS weight-loss help are now heavier than those before the Covid pandemic. On average, people are 5lbs or 2.4kg heavier than those starting the programme during the previous three years. See here for more details.
  • In Grimsby, obesity-related hospital admissions have risen in North East Lincolnshire where three quarters of the adults are overweight. Read more here.
  • Finally, a hospital is limiting surgery on patients living with obesity in case it causes structural damage to the building. The hospital is 1 of 7 built between 1960 and 1980 from a lightweight concrete which is now failing. More details here.
